In this video I will be having a look at the subject of energy harvesting. I will explain where and when energy harvesting is being used and how we can create such energy harvesting systems by ourselves. Those system will partly work with sun light, mechanical vibrations, heat and radio frequencies. Let's get started!

  • Let's say I have a wifi enabled implant. I could have my phone send out wifi signal of 1w to the implant where 30% of the source energy is converted into power to charge the onboard supercapacitor. Then the implant does it's thing, sends the data back to the phone through the same antenna and repeats if operation is longer than can be sustained on a single charge. Slow? Yes. Practical? Depends, but in this case it's better than the alternatives.

  • I see a lot of these, nobody believes me when I say you can power an Arduino AtMega when you use the right circuit. Use whatever harvesting method you want. Wire/bus it to a joule thief, and split to a 5v regulator, and use whatever mosfet you want to smooth/cap the current.

  • I think the main issue with energy harvesting and the free energy debate is we all know nothing is free. But what we do know is anyone who creates a device that provides cheap alternatives to public works companies tends to have their work destroyed and die untimely deaths. Why? Also I wish ppl would be more open to actual debate rather than smart ass commentary and mocking mouths. It's never done anyone any good and it's actually gatekeeping for the money hungry corporations. You were professional but some of these channels like their egos stroked and they get off in the comment sections with regurgitated rhetoric, most ppl tend to just spout nonsense that is full of hateful words and think they have won some kind of contest for being the worst human in the planet. Tesla is a prime example of this kind of behavior. After studying his patents I'm finding it hard to believe we are still on the same systems. We need to find away to get rid of batteries. We do that and we will truly be on the verge of saving humanity. Until then we might as well just suck on an exhaust pipe.

  • For such that low consumption of electricity, I wouldn't bother to grab alkaline battery, and last for some years. Harvesting power to such a low powered machine like that, the problem is the cost. You don't want spend more than 10 bucks to make them live infinitely, than buying some battery that would last at least as long as you breathing 😅 I like the idea though.

  • -50 dBm is a great strength for Wi-Fi signal. But if you calculate how many current at 5 V it can provide, the result will be 2 nA. So even if you will be able to get 5 V from it, capacitor and diodes leakage most likely will be larger.

  • That little module that you showed at the end is actually quite useless. You still need a dc supply to generate a dc voltage that this module can switch. And that dc supply will have a quiescent power draw. That module is trying to solve a problem by creating the same problem in another place so it's a nothing-burger.

  • Sorry, I don't know if it was already said, but I think that you might add a bit of improvement. First, I think it is better to use some sort of active rectifier made for example of transistors, because you wouldn't loose those 0.7v from the diode. Of course that is more complex and needs additional power to turn on and off the transistors, but maybe it is worth it. Another thing is that that with piezo disk, you need to bend it, not to shake it to get some energy from it. So in your example with the washing machine, I think you should stick it to the wall and connect some rod to the washing machine to put some vibration stress on the disk for example.
