In this video I will be having a look at the Snapmaker 2.0, a 3-in-1 machine that can do laser engraving, 3D printing and CNC cutting. I will show you how easy it is to assemble, I will try out all of its functions and tell you how well they work and in the end I will tell you my opinion whether I think it is worth its price tag. Let's get started!

  • I like that a lot of these comments are about how "for that price I can buy three ali express machines that will do a better job than this will" Sure. Maybe you can get machines that will do a better job than this. But that kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it? The whole idea of this machine is to turn your desktop into a workshop. I don't know about you, but I definitely don't have the space to have three machines set up. And the ease of switching from one mode to the next, in my opinion, is totally worth it. Not to mention, you can buy a 200 dollar 3d printer off ali express. But you can be darn sure that it won't last more than a month if you use it frequently. When you spend the extra money to buy a higher quality machine, it lasts a lot longer. Not to mention these machines are completely modular, if a part wears out you can just replace it. And in my experience, when I had a problem with the fan on the power supply failing (due to my own negligence mind you. I got sawdust in it and it gummed up) I was able to send it in and they fixed it for *free*. When you buy the better product. You get a better product.

  • 1800€ doesn't sound that bad when certain 3D printers are already half or more of that. Not sure about the CNC and Laser tho. It isn't the best at everything but the idea is great.

  • I ordered the snapmaker and just got mine in the mail yesterday. I can see the things you pointed out being issues, like the noise etc, but I really needed a printer that could print large things for my business. The laser and cnc functions just opens up more options for things to sell! I plan on keeping mine in my garage to keep the sound and venting the fumes easier.

  • But ... it's a 4-in-1 machine. You say it yourself: Laser engraving and cutting, 3D printing and CNC machine. I know, technically a laser cutter can always also engrave - but an engraver can't always also cut! So, IMO, it should really be a 4-in-1 device and marketed as such.

  • Nice review and valid points 👍 Personally I prefer their solution with 22 screws to fasten the work surface rather than some sort of flimsy quick release solution that potentially gets worn and loose over time! Remember this is something which is going to move around for hours (days) and needs to be sturdy. A couple of minutes to secure it with screws is no problem. I bought this unit based on info via Kickstarter, Snapmaker and user reviews (actual use and quality of prints ++ over time) of Snapmaker 1 and 2. I’m so far left with an impression of what looks like a company with a philosophy and focus on details, high quality and flexibility. And, I like the prospect of many future expansions (e.g. there is a rotary module soon to be released adding a forth axis to the unit which looks very promising (snapmaker-2.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders/project_updates)). I have just received mine A350, but has not had the time to assemble it yet. But, I’m so looking forward to “play” with it 🌝 I was first doubtful whether to order it just because of the noisy power supply and motors (I live in a apartment building), but I took my chances. (Of course the improved and more silent versions (according to “a broke engineer“ down below) surfaces after I got mine…) The software lacks some features and is a work in progress (but so is Windows 🌝 ), so I have no doubt that there will be a lot of improvements over time!

    • Look at agricultural industry, they use 2 clamps to vertically hold 40+ pound safety side panels on machinery, and those do not come off. Simple, and still way more than overkill for something like this (also that 40 pounds is being bounced and bashed along on bumpy terrain, it doesn’t move and you can see that by the rust lines just how long it’s stayed in place).

      Jake GarrettJake GarrettPřed 5 měsíci
    • Clamps don’t move though. I use 2 binder/paper clips to hold my glass bed, it’s not going anywhere. My other printer has a magnetic build plate and that doesn’t come off easy either (certainly not while printing). So it’s like you can use 100 million screws to secure something, if it only needs 2 or 3 spring loaded clips or industrial latches if you prefer, then it’s poorly designed.

And in the benchy test, the last one was the least (precise) of the the three. Please understand, this is NOT a criticism of your grasp of English-it is damn near flawless. But the hardest thing to master in any language is idiomatic use, and that particular idiom is a pet peeve of mine. Anyway, I enjoy and look forward to your videos.

  • I have a separate CNC, 3D printer (enclosed FFF/FDM) and 60W CO2 laser engraver/cutter, and I would never want to have those operations in the same room or location. The variables like: noise level, toxicity, fumes, fume extraction, dust/chips, dust collection, sharp projectile hazard, fire hazard, temperature reliance/control, space requirements, material storage, etc. vary greatly within the machine operations. The reconfiguration steps are also a big turnoff. The actual mechanics of XYZ linear rails/servos/stepper motors&drivers are quite cheap these days, so why why why....

  • The fact that the laser mode does not have any kind of laser enclosure is pretty dangerous. Sure glasses are great but that does not ensure complete safety and these kinds of lasers can really mess up your eyes with the slightest error. For the software, I have been using lightburn for a while and it is an outstanding laser software with a great feature set. Given the cost of this unit I believe you could easily make 3 superior specialty machines for less money. I am excited for the future of all-in-one machines but I think just like 3D printing originally, either wait for the tech to get cheaper and more effective, or build your own if you want something that has a good cost-performance ratio.
